Summer Full Day Rides
Full day summer mountain biking adventures with flexible ride days and van transportation for athletes ages 8 and up
This program is perfect for young mountain bikers who love to ride bikes and want to spend the day exploring trails along the Peak-to-Peak region (Nederland, Blackhawk, etc.), Lyons, and Jeffco Open Space.
This program dives into all elements of mountain biking to help junior athletes become well-rounded riders with essential skills in route navigation, bike handling, trail etiquette, and land stewardship. Each day athletes are split into small groups based on age and skill; and coaches work with these groups to learn and practice skills necessary to conquer climbs, navigate descents, and tackle technical features, all while building confidence and team camaraderie in an encouraging and supportive environment.
Each ride follows SMBA’s coaching philosophy of time on the trail, fun, teamwork, and land stewardship; teaching riders the importance of protecting our trails and environment while having fun and memorable mountain bike adventures. Every SMBA ride works to foster a lifelong love for mountain biking and the great outdoors.

Comfortable hydration pack or backpack with a water reservoir and enough space to comfortably carry the following items on each ride: enough food for on-trail lunch and snacks, a jacket or rain jacket for colder weather conditions, and equipment necessary to change a flat tire and make minor trail-side repairs/adjustments. We recommended Camelbak style hydration packs with an integrated water reservoir that can hold at least 100oz. of water.

All rides meet at the SMBA office and athletes ride in vans to their ride location each day. Some groups may occasionally ride to and from a trail location from the SMBA office.
Ride location is determined each morning based on weather conditions, trail conditions/closures, athlete/coach group goals for the day, and permit limitations.
Staff or coaches cannot confirm the ride location until 8am, on the day of ride.
Most summer days are spent riding in the Peak-to-Peak region (Nederland, Blackhawk, etc.) area during the summer due to the wide variety of trails, tree coverage, and cooler summer temps. Depending on weather and trail conditions summer ride locations may include:
Nederland (Forest Service & County Open Space trails in and around Nederland)
Sourdough Trail
Black Hawk (Maryland Mountain trails)
Hall Ranch (Bitterbrush, Antelope, Nelson Loop).
Heil Ranch (Picture Rock, Wapiti, Overland Loop).
Select Jeffco Open Space trails
Walker Ranch
Betasso (Canyon Loop, Benjamin Loop, Canyon Link trail, Boulder Creek Path).
